EV Charger Installation Guide for Charleston Homeowners
If you’re considering buying an electric vehicle, or you’ve already brought one home, you’ll likely need a dedicated circuit to charge properly. Many homeowners ask for the fastest charging possible, but that isn’t always necessary. The right setup depends on how far you drive each day, your panel capacity, and your budget. In many Charleston-area homes, a 20A–40A Level 2 charger provides safe, reliable overnight charging without costly upgrades.

Why the Electrical Box Matters When Installing Light Fixtures
When installing a new light fixture, what’s holding it up matters just as much as how it looks. Many modern fixtures weigh far more than homeowners realize, and not all electrical boxes are rated to support them. From lightweight cut-in boxes to pancake boxes and fan-rated boxes, using the wrong one can create serious safety risks. Always make sure your electrician verifies the box is properly rated before installation.

Why Arc Fault Breakers and AFCI Protection Matters
Arc fault breakers, or AFCIs, protect homes from electrical fires caused by damaged or arcing wiring. Unlike standard breakers, they detect abnormal electrical signals and shut power off before heat builds inside walls. In newer homes, AFCI or combo AFCI/GFCI breakers are often required by code. If one trips, it’s usually for a reason and removing it can eliminate an important safety layer.
